We use honorifics when speaking to someone who holds a higher rank.

You need to show respect when you talk to someone who holds a higher rank.

Holding a higher rank doesn't mean you can act that way.

 

 

• make someone's acquiantance   처음으로 만나다, 안면을 트다

We use honorifics when we first make someone's acquaintance.

I wanted to make her acquaintance, but I missed the chance.

I made his acquaintance at an academic conference.

 

 

• struggle with   ~으로 어려워하다

Foreigners learning Koreans as a second language often struggle with honorifics.

I can cook delicious pasta, but I struggle with Korean food.

Kids often struggle with their emotions during their adolescence.
