HEADLINE 1

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he will start to end preferential treatment for Hong Kong in response to a new security law pushed by China.

 

도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 중국이 추진하는 새로운 보안법에 대응해 홍콩에 대한 특혜 종식에 나서겠다고 밝혔다.

 

preferential - preferential treatmentrates etc are deliberately different in order to give an advantage to particular people 

ex) preferential credit terms for reliable borrowers

 

response - something that is done as a reaction to something that has happened or been said

Amid violent protests erupting across the U.S. over the death of George Floyd, President Trump has said he is willing to use military force against the protesters.  

 

조지 플로이드 사망을 둘러싸고 미국 전역에서 격렬한 시위가 분출하는 가운데 트럼프 대통령은 시위대에 대해 군사력을 사용할 용의가 있다고 밝혀왔다.

The UK government has announced competitive sports, including horse racing, football, and cricket, can resume in England this month.

 

영국 정부는 경마, 축구, 크리켓 등 경쟁력 있는 스포츠가 이번 달 영국에서 재개될 수 있다고 발표했다.

In the wake of the death of George Floyd, many celebrities have spoken out against racism and police brutality.

Celebrities including Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande have taken to Twitter and Instagram to honor Floyd’s memory while urging their fans to get involved. 

And while a social media post can only do so much, many people agree on the power that large platforms have to spread awareness and demand change.

 

조지 플로이드의 죽음 이후, 많은 유명인사들은 인종차별과 경찰의 만행에 반대하는 목소리를 냈다.

비욘세, 테일러 스위프트, 빌리 에일리쉬, 아리아나 그란데 등 유명인사들은 트위터와 인스타그램에 팬들의 참여를 촉구하며 플로이드의 기억을 기렸다. 

그리고 소셜 미디어 포스트는 그렇게 많은 것을 할 수 있을 뿐이지만, 많은 사람들은 큰 플랫폼이 인식을 확산시키고 변화를 요구해야 하는 힘에 동의한다.

In a bid to minimize contact between patients and medical staff, Rwanda has deployed robots to carry out menial tasks like taking temperatures and monitoring patients.

By helping the team assess the effectiveness of their clinical decisions, the robots cut the number of bedside visits that doctors have to make. The robots are a first for Africa and have the potential to offer even more support to medical teams.

 

르완다는 환자와 의료진의 접촉을 최소화하기 위해 로봇을 배치해 체온 측정, 환자 감시 등 위험한 임무를 수행하고 있다.

이 로봇들은 팀이 그들의 임상 결정의 효과를 평가하도록 도와줌으로써, 의사들이 해야 하는 침상 방문 횟수를 줄였다. 이 로봇들은 아프리카에 처음 있는 로봇이며 의료팀들에게 훨씬 더 많은 지원을 제공할 잠재력을 가지고 있다.

ex) a report to assess the impact of advertising on children

assess what/how etc 

ex) The technique is being tried in classrooms to assess what effects it may have.

A game ticket from Michael Jordan's 1984 NBA debut for the Chicago Bulls sold for nearly $25,000, a record for a ticket of its kind.

"The Jordan stuff right now is just through the ceiling on everything," said Mark Townsend, owner of TicketsFromThePast.com. "It's just crazy."

The Huggins and Scott Auctions sale, which ended in the wee hours Friday morning, drew 62 bids and closed at $24,907.50.
