The U.S. has decided to impose travel restrictions on foreign nationals who have been to Brazil.

 

미국이 브라질에 다녀온 외국 국적자에게 여행 제한을 두기로 했다.

Italian mayors have started imposing new restrictions after the recent easing of nationwide lockdown measures led to a rebound of COVID-19 cases and deaths.

 

이탈리아 시장들은 최근 전국적인 봉쇄조치가 완화되면서 COVID-19 사건의 재발과 사망자가 발생하자 새로운 제한을 가하기 시작했다.

The trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on corruption charges has opened in Jerusalem, marking the first time a sitting Israeli prime minister has appeared in court as a defendant.

Younger people are dying at unprecedented rates from COVID-19, as developing countries become new hotspots for the pandemic.

In Brazil, people under 50 account for 5% of COVID-19 deaths, ten times greater than that recorded in Italy or Spain. In Mexico, nearly one-fourth of the dead were aged between 25 and 49. In India, another rising hotspot, officials reported this month that nearly half of the dead were younger than 60.

In India, the explosion of cases in Mumbai has been connected to the dense cityscape and areas where hospitals are overwhelmed.

 

개발도상국들이 대유행의 새로운 지점이 되면서 젊은 사람들이 COVID-19로부터 전례 없는 속도로 죽어 가고 있다.

브라질에서는 50세 미만 인구가 COVID-19 사망의 5%를 차지해 이탈리아나 스페인에서 기록된 사망자보다 10배나 많다. 멕시코에서는 사망자 중 거의 4분의 1이 25세에서 49세 사이였다. 또 다른 핫스팟인 인도에서는 이번 달에 사망자 중 절반 가까이가 60세 미만이라고 관리들이 발표했다.

인도에서는 뭄바이에서 발생한 사건들의 폭발이 울창한 도시 풍경과 병원들이 압도당하는 지역과 연결돼 왔다.

The predecessor of Sweden’s state epidemiologist has broken her silence on the country’s coronavirus strategy, saying she now believes the authorities should have put in place tougher restrictions in the early stages of the pandemic.

Annika Linde has now become the first member of the public health establishment to break ranks, saying she has changed her mind as a result of Sweden’s relatively high death toll .

“I think that we needed more time for preparedness,” she said. “If we had shut down very early … we would have been able to protect the vulnerable.”

 

스웨덴 국립 역학자의 전임자인 그는 이제 당국이 전염병의 초기 단계에서 더 강력한 규제를 시행했어야 했다고 생각한다고 말하면서 스웨덴의 코로나바이러스 전략에 대한 침묵을 깼다.

안니카 린데는 스웨덴의 비교적 높은 사망률의 결과로 생각이 바뀌었다고 말하면서 이제 공공 보건소의 첫 번째 대열 회원이 되었다.

The U.S. is the world’s biggest gift card market. The plastic cash substitute has been the most popular holiday item on shoppers’ lists for 13 years in a row.  

In 2019 alone, U.S. consumers loaded up on gift cards from brands like Starbucks, Amazon and Home Depot to the tune of about $98 billion, which is a 90% increase from 2005.

But much of the gift ends up wasted.  About 2% to 4% of gift card money goes unused every year. That adds up to between $2 billion and $4 billion.

 

미국은 세계에서 가장 큰 상품권 시장이다. 이 플라스틱 현금 대체품은 13년 연속 쇼핑객 명단에서 가장 인기 있는 명절 상품이었다.  

2019년에만 미국 소비자들이 스타벅스, 아마존, 홈디포 같은 브랜드의 상품권에 2005년에 비해 90% 증가한 약 980억 달러 선까지 실렸다.

그러나 그 선물의 많은 부분이 결국 낭비된다.  기프트 카드 돈의 약 2%~4%가 매년 사용되지 않고 있다. 그것은 총 20억에서 40억 달러에 이른다.
